Training Our Clowns
Hearts & Noses Hospital Clown Troupe takes pride in the quality of our training, with its emphasis on empowering and engaging the child or elder through improvisation, sensitivity, and partnering.
After a selective audition process, each clown undergoes extensive training through workshops led by our Artistic Director and guest instructors, followed by supervised visits in the facilities we serve.
These sessions cover important topics including hand hygiene, adapting to mental health units, and responding sensitively in different medical environments.
Many of our clowns also participate in international conferences and trainings with global leaders in medical clowning. Ongoing professional development and emotional debriefing support help our team stay grounded and connected in this meaningful work.

Hearts & Noses trainers have led workshops and trainings for:

What is medical clowning anyway!?
Are you curious about what it is that medical clowns do? Do you want to know more about how hospital clowns are different from theater clowns? Would you just like to play with a bunch of other silly, compassionate people? Then this is your workshop!
Come join our seasoned therapeutic clowns and learn about the art of bringing your clown into a medical setting. Led by our artistic director, former Cirque du Soleil clown Kenny Raskin, exercises will cover current best practices. You will leave with a clearer understanding of a clown’s role in a clinical setting, and you will have a chance to practice the joy of empowering patients – all while keeping your hands clean!
Some prior clowning experience is recommended but not required.
Light snacks will be provided. Spots are limited. Tiered pricing available.
