Laughter is the best medicine, they say! And it’s pretty powerful, for sure. But sometimes you still need to get a shot!
Members of the Hearts & Noses Hospital Clown Troupe entertained and distracted local kids at the Boston Medical Center’s flu clinic in early October.
“We try to offer clowns anywhere there are children getting anxious,” said executive director and clown Cheryl “Tic Toc” Lekousi. “A little bit of laughter is a definite stress buster.”
This was the Troupe’s first flu clinic appearance. Open clinic clowning can be a bit tricky, Lekousi explains. Clowns look for permission to engage with a patient and will provide plenty of space for anyone who appears scared or uneasy over their presence.
