Hearts & Noses Hospital Clown Troupe clowns gathered recently for their fall Troupe training, welcoming Michael Trautman as guest trainer. Trautman is a master in physical comedy and worked with the Troupe on exercises to use in small hospital spaces.
Executive Director Cheryl Lekousi said that twice a year the Troupe brings in outside trainers to expand the “tools” the clowns use during their hospital visits. “While each visit is individual to the child, the clowns have developed skills to make these visits more fun,” she said.
Lekousi continued, “If a child is interested in a subject, our clowns can join them in learning and playing around their interests. If a clown skill will expand on the fun while interacting, we are ready.” To that end, Trautman included “silliness with hats and coats” and “how to expand on play and ideas”.
Hearts & Noses clowns continue their training throughout each year to expand their skills and have more ways to empower the children we serve.
